Holly Springs Downtown Mural
Town of Holly Springs | 50 x 13 feet | 105 W Ballentine St, Holly Springs, NC 27540
The town commissioned me to create a design that was uniquely Holly Springs to transform a once mundane wall into a memorable moment for community members. As a kick off to their 150 anniversary celebration, this project is the first ever Town of Holly Springs commissioned project and the energy it brings to the downtown community is undeniable.
While painting, pedestrians were energized to watch the project come to life:
✨ “We are so lucky to have you here.”
✨ “This must be a lot of work. Thank you for doing it!”
✨ “I can’t wait to come back and take my picture with this.”
✨ “We’ve been needing something like this!”
Feeling the excitement of this project by pedestrians, community drivers, and customers of downtown businesses — it’s proof that murals matter.
“It’s Happening Here!”
HOLLY SPRINGS DESIGN CONCEPT:
Capturing The Town's New Brand Identity & Community Culture
This mural was designed to serve as both a landmark and an invitation to pause, engage, and connect. Becoming a highly recognizable destination, this mural reflects the town’s evolving identity through layers of iconography creating a visual language that is unmistakably rooted in Holly Springs.
The primary “Holly Springs” wall establishes a bold civic identity, while the arch wall functions as a dynamic focal point framing a vibrant, forward-moving landscape that draws viewers in. Through clean, flat graphic forms and a cohesive color palette pulled from the town’s branding offering rich detail and hidden moments of discovery.
Conceptually, the design explores connection across time bridging Holly Springs’ past, present, and future through the integration of historic structures, natural systems, and subtle references to innovation and growth. Layered compositions of pathways, rail lines, molecular patterns, and organic forms suggest momentum and intentional progress, while familiar elements like wildflowers, community symbols, and gathering spaces reinforce a shared sense of place and belonging.
While the arch invites exploration and interaction, the main wall reinforces recognition and pride ensuring that whether experienced in passing or captured and shared digitally, the mural clearly communicates a unified message:
Holly Springs is a place of connection, growth, and momentum where it’s not just happening, but continuing to evolve.
